01. The Challenge - Fragrance Discovery through Sensory Stimulation
In line with the opening of their new flagship store in Japan, Jo Malone London collaborated with Holition, to create a new augmented reality (AR) experience that would bring their signature fragrances to life through sensory storytelling.
This innovative project, accessible through the Jo Malone Virtual Townhouse and in-store printed markers, offers a unique and immersive way for customers to explore and appreciate the brand's beloved fragrances.
02. The Solution - Using ASMR to Reimagine the Fragrance Discovery Experience
The essence of this AR experience is rooted in ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) and sensory storytelling. ASMR, known for its calming and immersive qualities, perfectly complements the intricate and delicate nature of Jo Malone's fragrances. The AR experience uses this as inspiration to help users unlock and explore the fragrance notes of Jo Malone's timeless collection, making the discovery process both engaging and memorable.

Customers can access this innovative AR experience in two ways:
1. Jo Malone Virtual Townhouse: As an extension of the virtual space, users can explore the new AR experience from the comfort of their homes by scanning QR codes within the Virtual Townhouse.
2. In-Store Markers: At the new flagship store in Japan, printed markers serve as activation points for the AR experience. Shoppers can use their smartphones to scan these markers and interact with the AR elements in-store.

Holition used advanced 3D augmented reality technology to create high-fidelity renders that vividly bring Jo Malone's fragrances to life. As users engage with the AR experience, they can visualise various fragrance elements and discover the detailed notes of each scent through interactive hotspots. This creates a beautiful, sensory-rich journey that highlights the complexity and beauty of Jo Malone's best-selling fragrances.
